Local American Newspapers Need RSS

In Merry Olde England , I often receive news of America via the prism of the BBC and its inherent leftist and anti-American bias.  Too often this becomes so blatant as to remind me of the worst days of the Soviet Union and Pravda (yes - you have to be living in England to really experience this).

So in reaction to that I find myself longing for some real , local, news from America - not the big stories - the little ones. The stories of everyday life. Smalltown America.

In my search for such stories of Americana, I stumbled across this excellent resource - a page listing all the newspaper websites in Kentucky

Great I thought - I'll be able to feed them into my Google Reader and keep abreast of the latest local goings on in smalltown Kentucky.

Alas , no luck. The overwhelming majority dont have an RSS feed.  Now thats not the fault of the editors of such newspapers - some of the circulations are so low and so local that maybe they haven't even thought of the global audience.  But in my view, the most effective weapon of U.S. propaganda won't be the CIA, the Pentagon, or Hollywood or even the big MSM outlets. In our interconnected, internet world, the future of American influence could well be the localised, the local 3,000 circulation newspaper, the small town in Kentucky. Why?  Because that gives the rest of the world an insight into the true America - away from the MSM prism and biases in their own countries.

Local newspapers are vitally important - and I don't think they realise this.  Having RSS feeds for all of them would be an important foundation in the global propaganda war for America and the values of freedom, liberty and justice for all.
